The X Factor is a phenomenal British reality TV audition show that started in 2004. It was created by Simon Cowell, formerly one of the main judges in a similar show across the Atlantic – the American Idol. Ever since its first season, X Factor has been drawing in aspiring singers from all over UK, Ireland and the rest of the world.
The show’s format is mostly composed of live auditions where contestants will be judged with either a ‘yes’ vote or a ‘no’ vote by the resident panel of judges. As the competition progresses, some format switches are usually thrown in to add more variety to the show, which in recent years has included the ‘six chair challenge’. The programme usually show the contestant training with their coaches in bootcamps, judge’s coaching and mentoring and on-going live show performances in front of a fully-packed studio in Wembley, London.

One of the most unique things about X Factor is that there is no real upper age limit, though there is a minimum age requirement of 14 or 16 which varies from season to season. The world has been wonderfully surprised by many singers who are considered a bit ‘old’ for mainstream music, coming in as a relative new discovery.
